Kapa Haka Group

The school runs two kapa haka groups -
Junior (Years 1 to 3), and
Senior (Years 4 to 6).
Both groups operate on a Tuesday at lunchtime and the Senior group
runs half an hour into the afternoon session.
Being part of the Kapa Haka groups allows children to experience
Maori culture and protocols. It also develops their confidence and their ability
to perform in front of an audience.
The groups perform at the West Auckland Multicultural Festival and
the School Gala.
Other performances throughout the year may also be
scheduled.
Children who enjoy performing, singing and / or dancing will
often thrive in kapa haka.
Sessions start in early Term 1 and the children have a chance
to come along for several weeks before making the commitment to the group. We
expect children to commit for the whole year, therefore it is essential children
make their decision nearing the end of term one. The groups are then formed and
do not take any new members until the following year.
