There are two main sections to the Numeracy Project Framework:
Strategy
This describes the mental processes students use to estimate answers and solve operational problems with numbers.
Knowledge
The describes the key items of knowledge that students need to learn.
It's important that students make progress in both sections of the
framework. Strong knowledge is essential for students to broaden their
strategies across a full range of numbers, and knowledge is often an
essential prerequisite for the development of more advanced strategies.
NumPA (Diagnostic Interview) This diagnostic interview is
administered in an individual interview. It is used to fully assess both knowledge and strategy in detail.
GloSS Maths Assessment
The GloSS (Global Strategy Stage) assessment is an individual test of mathematical strategies, in which the teacher spends time with each student observing and recording their approaches to number-based problem-solving. Students are assigned stages, reflecting their overall ability to apply an increasingly sophisticated range of calculation strategies when solving problems.
There are eight strategy stages altogether, with the first
three often grouped together:

The IKAN assessment identifies the knowledge stages
students are operating at. The IKAN interview is for students at the
counting stages of the number framework. It can be carried out formally
in a one-on-one situation or in a small group setting. The IKAN written
test is for students at the higher stages of the number framework.
