National Standards Doing well in reading, writing and maths gives children the skills and
knowledge they need to succeed at school, and in the future.

2010, schools with children in Years 1-8 will be using National
Standards in reading, writing and maths. The standards give teachers,
children, parents, families and whānau a clear idea of where children
are at in reading, writing and maths, and what they have to do next in
their learning. |

Gifted and talented learners are a special group of children who have
exceptional ability in one or more areas of their lives. These areas
can include intellectual pursuits, technical competence, creativity,
leadership and social skills, physical performance, cultural
