At Titirangi Primary, our Mathematics teaching is aligned with the NZ Numeracy Project, which deals with understanding of numbers and their application in mathematical problem solving. Developing a confident and sophisticated grasp of Mathematics involves a range of interdependent skills, ideas and concepts. The Numeracy Project, therefore, is designed as just one component in the teaching of Mathematics and the development of mathematical understanding. Mathematical knowledge (often referred to as "strand" maths) also forms a crucial part of teaching and learning, and is taught alongside the number-based project in the specific areas of Number & Algebra, Geometry & Measurement and Statistics. These are also complemented by ongoing weekly basic facts practice in every year group.
