On Friday Honorable Carmel Sepuloni (Member of Parliament, Kelston) and Dr Deborah Russell (Member of Parliament, New Lynn) visited our school. The two parliamentarians visited as our school has parent/caregiver communities in both electorates.
Our visitors were hosted for morning tea and were then shown around the school by two members of the school council, Leo Dellow and Jesscia Samuels
Feedback from the two visitors was very complimentary.
They asked for feedback to take back to Wellington about educational matters. I shared with them the concern that the çurriculum refresh’ (essentially a review of the current curriculum), should be put on hold to allow schools to focus on the current curriculum, particularly literacy and math to help children accelerate their achievement levels as some levels of achievement has been victim of the disruption to teaching and learning during the past 900 plus days of COVID. They were also asked to see if the same support being made available to secondary students to accelerate their learning in the context of NCEA could be available to helping primary schools in relation to the relevant achievement levels.
It was excellent to meet with our two parliamentarians and for them to experience first hand the joys of being a member of the Titirangi School community.
