For parents and caregivers

Joining the school community

Enjoying your child's time at school

Getting involved in school activities can be a great way to support your child at school. There are a number of ways you can become involved as a parent or caregiver - depending on how much time you have available.

COMMUNICATIONS
We make great efforts to communicate proactively with parents, and we recommend signing up to our Facebook page, ensuring you receive the school newsletter, and downloading the school app for any urgent alerts. If you aren't sure about something, always feel free to ask.
  • School App - Go to the App Store on your Apple or Android device and search ‘SchoolsAppsNZ’ to download the app onto your device. Then search ‘Titirangi School’ to find our school’s app.
  • News on the school website
  • Facebook
  • Class Dojo - online tool that allows teachers to share digital content with parents of what is happening in their classrooms. Your teacher will provide access details.
EVENTS FOR PARENTS

The school runs a range of events throughout the year for parents and caregivers. This includes:

  • Whānau Hui for our Māori whānau

  • Pasifika Fono for our Pacific Island families

  • Special workshops on maths and other topics

  • New Entrant information sessions for our new families

  • Information sessions on digital learning

These are advertised in the school calendar and newsletter

MEETING WITH YOUR TEACHER

Generally, the school invites parents in for meetings twice a year for formal meetings about your child's progress. The first time is an opportunity to discuss your child's progress and provide feedback, directly with your teacher. The second is a 'student-led conference' where your child shows you their progress towards their goals. We highly recommend attending these meetings and details are advised in the school newsletter, with an online booking system.

At the beginning of the school year, we also have 'Meet the Teacher' evenings where the teacher meets with all the classroom parents to discuss a whole range of school-related topics and answer any questions.

PARENT HELP

Most school trips need parent helpers to come along and assist with accompanying children. Your teacher or syndicate leader will let you know when these opportunities come up. Some classroom teachers also appreciate parent offers of help and assistance, especially with Perceptual Motor Programme (PMP) for Year 1 students and reading support. Our school librarian is always looking for volunteers in the library.

FUNDRAISING FUN

Titirangi School runs a range of fundraising activities through its Parent Teacher Association. The PTA will put out calls through the year for helpers with its events, including the famous Titirangi School Gala, usually held in November.  For more information or to express your interest, please contact pta@titirangi.school.nz

BOARD OF TRUSTEES

If you have professional skills, want the best for children at the school, and are interested in governance, you may be interested in finding out about joining the Board of Trustees. This is a voluntary position, and elections are held every three years.
